Dr. Barry Logan of NMS Labs will demonstrate the capabilities of LC/TOF and LC/Q-TOF beyond broad based targeted screening by sharing examples of how the power of retrospective data mining is answering new questions about previously analyzed samples.
NMS labs has been using LC/TOF for the targeted screening of over 300 compounds in post-mortem and human performance casework for over 5 years.  More recently, NMS Labs has uncovered a number of surprising results utilizing the TOF’s ability to comprehensively data mine previously analyzed samples for compounds that were not part of the original targeted scope.  In many cases, this information has become relevant post-analysis due to new investigative information or based on information supplied by the client.  From the identification of designer fentanyl to discerning popular cutting agents used in the processing of common drugs of abuse, Dr. Logan will discuss how data mining has been critical in elucidating new truths about forensic toxicology cases.
